In India, little SUVs have become extremely popular recently. Actually, SUVs have been quite popular in the last few years. In that sense, the Exter expertly fulfils the description of a small city runabout with plenty of ground clearance. Our Exter is unique in that it is the first production model to ever come off the assembly line. Yes, it reads VIN 1, which is really cool to all of the team members.

The top-of-the-line SX(O) Connect model, which comes with a 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, is what Hyundai has given us. Due to its shared platform with the Aura and Grand i10 Nios, Hyundai’s smallest SUV in India uses mechanical components from those two vehicles. It’s surprising that Hyundai bothered to make adjustments to the suspension, damping, and steering since we’ve driven all three vehicles.

The Exter outperforms many other options in the segment in terms of fitment quality, despite the SUV’s abundance of features. Not to mention that this is Hyundai’s smallest SUV, the steering wheel’s buttons feel excellent and are quite ergonomic.
It should come as no surprise that the Exter, Hyundai’s smallest SUV, has been a longtime favourite among our fleet over our testing period—it is a very well-thought-out vehicle. I bring up the infotainment system because we have already discussed the quality of fitments within the Exter.

With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the 8-inch infotainment display is quite user-friendly, even though it is wired. The system responds quickly and rarely feels slow, even though its speed isn’t as quick as that of the systems in Hyundai’s more expensive vehicles. Hyundai is ahead of the game in this area where OEMs are vying for market share with large displays and an extensive feature set by organising the user interface in a way that makes it simple to operate. Touch-sensitive buttons and knobs surround the display. The company even went so far as to provide Light Sage, Cosmic Blue, and Silver as the three distinct cabin trim options.
