Taiwanese electronics giant Acer Incorporated is returning to the Indian smartphone market with a brand licencing agreement with Indkal Technologies, a Bengaluru-based company that will create, produce, and sell Acer-branded phones in India.

Midway through 2024, Indkal Technologies plans to introduce a broad range of smartphone models under the Acer brand with the goal of swiftly gaining substantial market share and great momentum.

“Breaking down barriers between people and technology has always been the Acer brand purpose, dating back to its founding in 1987. “We are thrilled that Indkal Technologies will help us achieve this goal in India by offering a variety of smartphones under the Acer brand that enhances end-user choice and improves their experience in the Indian market,” stated Acer Incorporated Vice President of Global Strategic Alliances Jade Zhou.
Both businesses will concentrate on making smartphones that cost between Rs 15,000 and Rs 50,000; there will be fierce rivalry in this sector going forward.

We have been developing cellphones for Ace for a few years, and we are thrilled to finally make the announcement. We know Indian consumers will be in for a treat with Acer smartphones’, Indkal Technologies CEO Anand Dubey said in a joint statement.

Customers will be able to purchase Acer-branded smartphones nationwide through physical retail locations as well as online retailers.

Acer’s rivals in the sub-Rs 20,000 price range include Tecno, Infinix, and Itel, which are strongly present, as well as Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, Vivo, and Transsion Group-backed companies.

By volume, Chinese companies like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and others now own 75% of the Indian market share.

Notably, Acer decided to locate its first subsidiary, Acerpure, in India. The company launched Acerpure in 2020 to focus on its appliance business.

Acer intends to produce and export appliances from India, including refrigerators, hoover cleaners and air and water purifiers.

Based in Noida Dixon has secured a production agreement for tablets and laptops in the nation and is producing consumer durable goods under the Acer brand.
