Recent reports of declining demand for Tesla vehicles in the US market have also resulted in a decline in the automaker’s market share, and for this reason the stock price has faced trouble in this year. especially as a result Tesla in a terrible place. Due to a chance for the hood to come loose, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall for 1.8 million Model S and Model 3 electric cars as well as Model X and Model Y electric SUVs.

After all Tesla began getting complaints from customers in March 2024 regarding possible problems with the front hood or trunk locks of their vehicles is not working as well as. In mid-April, Tesla found “latch switch deformation, which could prevent the customer from being notified of an open hood state,” according to NHTSA documents. After following additional engineering research on the problem last month, Tesla voluntarily chose to start an NHTSA recall last week. There are just “three warranty claims or field reports for U.S. vehicles” that Tesla has identified thus far as possibly connected to the recall. Luckily, neither Tesla nor the NHTSA say they are aware of any significant incidents or crashes brought on by the malfunctioning frunk latch.

The recall affects all 2013–2024 Model S, 2016–2024 Model X, and 2020–2024 Model Y vehicles in the United States, as well as 2017–2024 Model 3 vehicles sold between September 6, 2017 and July 15, 2024 that include hood latches made in China. Out of the precise 1,850,363 automobiles built, only 1% are thought to have a possible problem, according to the update. Future manufacturing vehicles will come pre-installed with the upgrade.

For affected vehicles, the recall remedy entails a software upgrade with the version number 2024.20.3. According to Tesla, this software update and subsequent ones should now be able to identify an open hood and notify the owner through the vehicle’s user interface. Who knows how Tesla vehicles do not already have some form of automated alarm system in place for this? It is nice that there may now be a warning in case the hood suddenly opens while driving, as this is obviously not ideal nor safe.
